How a Design Student Became a Brand Identity Expert
Rajesh’s passion for visual communication started in university. During his undergraduate years at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, he became fascinated by how colors, shapes, and typography could tell a brand’s story across different cultures. That curiosity drove everything that came after.
After graduating with a Master’s degree in Graphic Design in 2010, he didn’t go straight into the corporate world. Instead, he spent six years working with Kuala Lumpur-based design agencies, handling projects from concept to delivery. Logo design, brand guidelines, retail identity systems—he learned it all by doing. Real brands. Real deadlines. Real results.
The turning point came in 2016. A major Penang-based property developer needed a complete rebrand. Their old identity felt disconnected from their vision. Rajesh led the entire project—research, strategy, visual system design, implementation. Within the first year, their brand recognition increased by 47%. That success showed him what was possible when strategy met creativity.
Over the past eight years at BrandVision Studio Sdn Bhd, he’s built something deeper. Not just creating brands, but mentoring the next generation of designers and developing proprietary frameworks for brand strategy. He’s published guides on logo design fundamentals, style guide creation, and visual storytelling. He teaches because he believes great brand identity isn’t a mystery—it’s a skill you can learn and master.
Today, his work focuses on what he calls “culturally intelligent design.” It’s the idea that the best brands don’t just follow global trends. They understand their local context, respect their audience, and communicate authentically. That’s what he brings to every project.
